1st International "Competition" and "Master Class" for young opera singers

The "Città di Bologna" (City of Bologna) Competition for young Opera Singers does not merely want to be a competition and a display window for young artists, but a thorough as possible opportunity of artistic and professional growth.
Without any additional expenses and with the availability of free accomodation, finalists will be able to take part to the Master Class.
The Master Class will not include any extra fee. Classes will be led by Maestro Paolo Coni as lead tutor.
Apart from training prizes, finalists and winners will have the chance to perform in concerts and opera performances in the stunning frame of the historic Guardassoni Theatre, recently reopened. Opera performances will include world premieres, which will be recorded and released commercially as well.
This initiative has been created to offer young opera singers a multi-faceted, fruitful and formative experience.
The jury will be formed by professional figures well reknowned in the operatic world.
Any singer, born after 01.01.1972, of any timbre and nationality will be admitted to the competition. Candidates will not have performed in major roles in theatres, festivals, established organisations or regional tours.
The registration fee is 70 euros.
During the stage finalists will be able to take advantage of free accomodation and discounts.
Various discounts will be available for the duration of the auditions as well.
Candidates will perform four complete operatic arias, in their original language and key, from the repertoire starting from the XVIII century to the Italian Verismo. At least two arias must be in Italian.
Applications must be received before April 28th, 2007.
Auditions will be held in the days immediately preceeding the beginning of the courses; courses will start on May 14, 2007.
The final concert, with the proclamation of the winners and the distribution of the awards, will take place on 19th of May 2007 at the Guardassoni Theatre. Operatic agents, journalists and theater managers will be invited.
The course for the finalists will include lectures on on interpretation by Maestro Paolo Coni and lectures on operatic philology, historical musicology and text analysis by Dottoressa Roberta Pedrotti.

The place of lawful jurisdiction competent in settling any eventual controversy is the Court of Justice of Bologna.

* A copy of the music scores of the musical excerpts you intend to perform
If your application form will be accepted you will be contacted via telephone by and not later than 02/05/2007.
Free of charge overnight stay and provisions are available throughout the whole duration of the course and rehearsal period at "Collegio San Tommaso d'Aquino" in Bologna.
Arranged meals are also available.
Throughout the duration of the auditions it is also possible to benefit of special prices accommodation facilities.
All the winners will be proclaimed at the very end of the "Finalists Gala Concert".
